Selling Books Online — (from NYT) Scribd has announced that it will allow any user to upload documents and charge for them. I think this is a welcome development, and will ease some fears that Amazon and Google will dominate the online publishing industry. According to Fiction Circus, the Scribd model may have saved publishing. But Patrick Ross at Copyright Alliance is concerned about Scribd’s history with infringement, despite its plan to build up a database of copyrighted works, stating “So why my reservation? The site will continue to enable infringement for any author or publisher not playing ball.”
